Oberland believes that diversity and equity are integral to being a sustainable business that is a force for good, with a purpose beyond profit. We know that operating according to those principles is essential for the true prosperity of our business and everyone who works with us.

As such, we have created and continue to develop the following commitments that align with our goal of positively contributing to UN SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB)

    • Provide training for all staff on key DEIB principles

    • Practice recruitment processes that identify and prevent unconscious biases from resulting in discrimination against any candidate

    • Currently building a DEIB system based on the GDEIB framework

    • Maintain current data on the living wage in the jurisdictions in which we operate and ensure our pay structures align

    • Adhere to a policy of no more than 8x wage differential between our lowest and highest paid employees

    • Mindfully establish wage ranges for all roles to ensure equity across all job categories

    • Teach youth about the circular economy through class projects such as live compost kits and facility tours

    • Make product donations to organizations that support animals in need

    • Future projects include providing frass product and education on sustainable food production and healthy eating to community gardens; developing a program to provide skills training and employment to people from marginalized backgrounds; sponsor events that support marginalized communities
